LORAIN - A full-length movie is expected to be filmed locally next summer.
The movie, called "Not in Ohio," is described as "almost like a 'Jumanji' mixed with a 'National Treasure,'" said actor and stuntman Angel Cardona.
The main characters in the movie play a game, which turns into reality, he explained. The adult players turn into children, and face obstacles in several enchanted worlds.
Parts of the movie will be shot in Lorain, but the main part of the filming will be done in Elyria's Cascade Park, Cardona said. Many people in the film are from the area, but others are from Los Angeles, London and Australia.
Cardona, a Lorain native, will play several roles, including one of the ninjas in the movie, he said. The director, Carlos Gonzalez, is also a Lorain native.
Auditions for the film were held at Lorain County Community College earlier this year, Cardona said. About 40 percent of the people involved are local.
On Saturday, Cardona was working on making a smaller film that will accompany the full-length film, he said.
"Not in Ohio" will have a premiere in theaters, but will go straight to DVD, he said. It is slated to be filmed and released next summer, he added, and should end up being between 90 minutes and 2 hours long.
Even though the movie will likely go straight to DVD, Cardona said it will have international exposure and will be available around the world.
Cardona said he's excited to be a part of the project because he's thought of ideas for a movie that are being used in this film. He has more ideas that he hopes to use in the future, he added.
"I've been wanting to do this since I was a kid," he said.
